Performing Onstage

One of the most appealing, yet terrifying,  things about performing live onstage is that you never know exactly what will happen and how the audience will react. You can rehearse your set all you like, but when it comes to the live show, sometimes the unpredictable can occur. And sometimes, it can just be a lot more fun than you ever imagined.

Take, for instance, our performance at the Heritage Grill. We were invited to play at the Heritage Uke Joint Club. We decided to include a number of well known songs in our set. Songs that people in the club could sing along to. One of these was “Hit the Road Jack” originally recorded by Ray Charles.  We were hoping that some of the audience would come up and join us onstage to give Ronin a really rough time with the “hit the road” part of the song. They did just that! We had three wonderful ladies come up on stage to sing along on the refrain with Marianne. What fun! These ladies really played off Ronin’s “cheating man” character in the song and turned in an inspired performance.

This is what I mean by “you just never know.” When you see how much joy music can bring out in people ….that is the reward!
